Experts recommend advancing key technology research and development and establishing a reliable supply chain system.

Sinochem News: On September 27, the 3rd China High-Purity Chemical Development Conference was held in Jinan, Shandong. Many experts believe that China's high-purity chemicals are currently transitioning from the stage of domestic substitution to a stage of high-end development. Efforts should be focused on advancing core technology research and building a reliable supply chain system to seize global development opportunities.

"High-purity chemicals, as key fundamental materials supporting the development of strategic emerging industries, have become a core area of competition among countries," pointed out Gong Yanling, Deputy Secretary-General of the China Chemical Society. She noted that while China has made significant progress in high-purity chemicals, breakthroughs are still needed in the preparation processes for high-end products, the integration of core equipment, and the application of green and low-carbon technologies. This conference will promote the resolution of these key issues and help China occupy a more important position in the global industrial chain.

Facing the accelerated iteration of digital technologies, increasingly stringent market demands, growing complexity in international competition, continuous pressure from the 'dual carbon' goals, and the situation where some high-end products and core equipment still rely on imports, Ren Zhongqi, Vice President of Beijing University of Chemical Technology, stated that the university will continue to strengthen research on key core technologies, deepen collaboration among industry, academia, and research, and increase the cultivation of high-end talent to support industrial transformation and upgrading.

"At present, many high-purity chemicals in China still face 'bottleneck' challenges, and some cannot be purchased even at high prices, such as advanced chemical materials and high-purity electronic chemicals. This has become a major scientific and technological problem that urgently needs to be addressed for China's economic and social development," said Li Qunsheng, Director of the Mass Transfer and Separation Engineering Research Center at Beijing University of Chemical Technology. "Improving the purity of chemicals is essential to achieving high-quality and high-end products. However, with each higher level of purity, the difficulty of purification increases dramatically."

To this end, Li Qunsheng led his team to conduct research on the core distillation technology for the manufacture of high-purity chemicals, developing the FGVT tray distillation technology and BH-type packed distillation technology. These technologies have been successfully applied in industry to produce high-purity silicon with a purity of 10N and vinyl chloride monomer with a purity of 99.999%, used for manufacturing semiconductors and high-end polyvinyl chloride. The product purity and energy efficiency indicators are significantly superior to advanced foreign technologies, breaking the monopoly of foreign technologies and opening the doors of the international market for domestically produced high-end chemicals. It is reported that the team's relevant technologies currently account for 70% of the industry's application capacity.

Li Yan, Director of the Materials and Chemical Division at the Planning Institute of the Petroleum and Chemical Industry, pointed out that during the '15th Five-Year Plan' period, China's fine chemical industry will focus on achieving comprehensive improvement in product value chains, technological capabilities, and global status. He stated: 'Seizing the commanding heights and opportunities in the global fine chemical field is a systematic project that requires top-level design, systematic planning, and multi-party collaboration. This demands consensus and joint efforts from policymakers, industry leaders, and frontline innovators.'

This conference was organized by the Professional Committee of High-Purity Chemical Processes and Equipment of the Chinese Chemical Society. Li Bin, Vice President of the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation, attended the meeting and delivered a keynote speech titled 'Thoughts on the Industrial Planning of Petrochemical Enterprises during the 15th Five-Year Plan.' Huang Wei, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, gave an online keynote speech titled 'Flexible Electronics Empowering Intelligent Materials and Green Energy: Technological Innovation and Future Industries.' A total of 48 industry experts and scholars delivered keynote speeches, and more than 350 people participated in this conference
